What we are looking for in an intern

This is a role for an individual with a passion for engineering and technology, who is keen to spend time with a small, fun, dedicated team. We are looking for an individual with a positive attitude, who wants to get hand on with some machines (happy to literally get their hands dirty) and tackles new challenges with enthusiasm. Someone who is happy to throw themselves at problems, communicating openly with the wider team to find solutions to these challenges. 

Internship Overview

On this internship you will become a central part of the engineering team. You will work on a diverse range of tasks such as designing, building, and running test equipment, as well as researching subcomponents and engaging with suppliers and manufacturing partners. This may involve:

· Operating manufacturing and test equipment, such as 5-axis CNC mills, coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and high pressure test cells.

· Recording and analysing test data, communicating findings back to the design team for inclusion in product improvements.

· Exploring novel materials and treatment solutions from various suppliers for integration and test in products.

· Evaluation of production costs, presenting findings to the commercial team.

On top if this, you should also expect to gain some unique entrepreneurial experience, linking engineering outcomes to customer needs, while having extremely close exposure to the operation of an early-stage startup

Start date and length of internship:

Start date flexible, 8 weeks, with potential to extend.

Business Development Intern – BD002

Internship Overview

We are looking for an intern who can work with our business development team during the summer of 2024 to carry out market research and marketing activities. You will have the opportunity to work with our Business Development Manager and CEO to help the company better understand its customers and communicate its product offerings. The role would be an excellent opportunity for students studying business, management or marketing who want to apply their learnings in a practical setting and have a real impact on our business. If you have a passion for technologies that solve global problems, are tenacious when it comes to gathering hard-to-come-by information and are an excellent communicator, this could be a role for you.

Actuation Lab embraces flexible working practices, while also believing in fostering a strong company culture through team interaction and group events. A successful applicant will be expected to spend most of their time working on site with the team in Bristol. Actuation Lab is based at 3A Princess Street, Bedminster, Bristol, BS3 4AG, UK.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties

  • Carry out market research into markets we are entering, understand competitors and trends.
  • Assist in the development of business development strategies and plans to achieve organisational goals.
  • Carry out research to understand our customers, how they buy and what is important to them.
  • Create marketing materials to communicate our business value proposition and technology with customers.
  • Create internal marketing/media material to be displayed at our facility.
  • Create external communication material for our LinkedIn and website.
  • Support the business development team with document preparation and meeting coordination.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience 

Whilst no prior experience in a business setting is required, the following skills are desirable:

  • Proficiency in market research.
  • Understanding of startup businesses.
  • Experience creating marketing materials.
  • Familiarity with marketing tools.

Minimum Qualifications  

Currently completing or completed a degree-level qualification in Business, Innovation and Enterprise, Marketing or similar.
